Third-grade classrooms were buzzing with excitement this week as students participated in the much-anticipated Market Day, a hands-on event where young entrepreneurs sold their handmade goods to peers in a lively and supportive marketplace environment.

The event marked the culmination of a cross-curricular project that blended social studies, math, economics, and creativity. Students spent weeks preparing by designing and crafting original products, ranging from colorful bookmarks and friendship bracelets to slime kits and hand-painted rocks. They also learned about budgeting, pricing, marketing, and the value of hard work.

On Market Day, Grafflin's front circle transformed into a bustling market, filled with mini-stores complete with signs, slogans, and decorative displays. Using “classroom currency,” students rotated between being sellers and customers, eagerly engaging with one another in trade, conversation, and encouragement.

But beyond the excitement of sales and purchases, Market Day emphasized a deeper message: the power of community. Students supported one another, offered positive feedback, and celebrated each other's successes. The event encouraged collaboration, kindness, and inclusivity—values that extend far beyond the classroom walls at Grafflin.

Westorchard and Roaring Brook unite fourth graders through read alouds

On Thursday, June 12, fourth graders from Westorchard joined our fourth-grade students for a special transition event in preparation for middle school. The morning began in the cafeteria with a shared read-aloud of The Day You Begin, setting the stage for connection and meaningful conversations about new beginnings.
