Today, our third graders captivated their families with a stunning musical performance of The Great Kapok Tree at Roaring Brook! Based on Lynne Cherry's beloved story, this adaptation brought the themes of environmental conservation to life through song and dance. The highlight of the performance was the final song, Pretty Planet, beautifully sung with sign language by our third graders.
The production's powerful message is clear: we must protect the rainforests to preserve the delicate balance of our environment and safeguard the animals that call it home. This performance was a true collaboration, with Mr. Dupont, art teacher Ms. McNealy, and our dedicated third-grade teachers working together to create a memorable experience.
By blending literature, music, and art, our students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of environmental stewardship. We hope you’re as proud as we are of their hard work and dedication over the past few months. Bravo to all for an outstanding performance!
First grade recently explored the relationship between the Earth, Moon, and Sun during a visit to the Hudson River Planetarium. The highlight of the show was Coyote, an amusing character adapted from Native American oral traditions, who shared his many misconceptions about our planet and its closest neighbors. Through his humorous confusion, students were encouraged to think critically about how the Earth, Moon, and Sun work together as a system. Native American stories woven throughout the show helped students distinguish between myths and scientific concepts. The immersive experience sparked curiosity and excitement about space, offering students a chance to engage with complex ideas in an interactive, age-appropriate way. The planetarium’s visuals and storytelling brought abstract concepts to life, deepening their understanding of the universe far beyond the classroom.
Bell’s 5th and 8th grade students have been hard at work in the STEAM lab, creating impressive stop motion videos to demonstrate their learning in STEAM and Biology classes.
